They all look and feel fine. All these 5 Americans have no symptoms of heart disease but all are at high risk. Being high risk means that more than 1 of these 5 individuals will likely suffer one of the cardiovascular events in the next 10 years shown below. High risk means the probability of having a heart attack, stroke or cardiac death in the next 10 years is greater than 20% (more than 1 in 5 chances); very high risk means greater than 30% (more than one in 3 chances).

 

All these events are now considered largely preventable. Evidence-based treatment improves patient outcomes while also reducing healthcare cost.

Take this Form to your physician. Ask your physician about your risk and achieving the recommended treatment goals.
