| | In addition for preventing heart disease, we aim to detect heart disease at its early stages whenever this is possible. Most heart disease are diagnosed only after when it has reached the more advanced symptomatic stage.
Most first heart attacks occur in patients that can be identified early before a heart attack develop. These are the 10 million with PAD (peripheral arterial disease), 16 million with diabetes, 4.4 million with stroke and millions more with Framingham Risk Score >20%. Another large group consist of those with Coronary Artery Calcification by cardiac CT and those with Framingham Risk Score between 10% to 20% plus elevated hs-CPR or family history of premature heart disease. In the majority of patients, the first indication that they have heart disease is the heart attack. In 1 of 3, it is sudden cardiac death. Detecting heart disease early has many obvious advantages in both lower healthcare spending and human suffering. Early detection is valuable only if effective treatment that is safe and effective is available. And it is.
