The science behind CVD prevention is very strong but the clinical implementation remains weak. The American Heart Association “Get With The Guidelines” study published in 2009 (Sachdeva A, , et al. Am Heart J. 2009 Jan;157(1):111-117.e2. Epub 2008 Oct 22 - http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19081406), revealed that only 21% of patients with known CHD who were hospitalized in 541 hospitals nationwide for Acute Coronary Syndrome were on lipid lowering medication prior to their admissions. So little has changed in the way physicians practice medicine in nearly a decade.
